HDTV

High Definition television (HD TV) means the broadcast of TV signals with a higher resolution than those of traditional formats (ie PAL).

What this basically means is that the image you see on your TV is much better quality, with sharper, clearer and more vibrant images, and with visual information about 2-5 times more detailed overall. As such this latest technology is suited particularly well to the new generation of large plasma and LCD TV screens.

HD is a new service offered by TV companies which is compatible with any TV that is 'HD ready' or 'HD compatible'. A variety of FreeSat channels are broadcast in HD format. HD quality is particularly suited to movies and sporting events - you will find many of these available on the BBC and ITV HD channels.

In the near future HD technology will also be applied to DVD players and recorders, video cameras and other broadcast media.

To be able to receive UK TV in HD format you will need to have an HD compatible television and also one of the new generation of FreeSat or Sky HD satellite receivers, which we can supply. If you're interested in learning more about HD please contact us for more details.
